What an incredible rare find. Here is a pair of action
packed and what I believe to be mantel garniture.
They are actually major sculptures and the tree
trunks form a vase. Spectacular in every single way
– the colors and workmanship are totally reminiscent
of Meissen. In fact when you first look at these you
will say Oh Meissen…they are that wonderful! This
pair of vases as far as what I have found doing a
little bit of research on them were made by the JW
Hammann Co Walendorf Germany 1764-1787. The
mark is an under glazed blue and I hope you can
see it in the picture. They are of soft paste earth and
ware and they have a tremendous amount of applied
decorations. The colors are just so scrumptious and
naturalistic. The art work is incredible! I want you to
look at the sharpness of detail, the vibrancy of
colors, and the manner of attitude so skillfully
created by the sculpture. There are a lot of strong
feelings here and these vases are of massive
proportion. They are in relatively good condition but
giving the age of the pieces they do have a few old
repairs and the repairs do look to be professionally
done and they are minor. There is no way to notice
the repairs unless you are under heavy scrutiny and
extremely bright light – they are just totally totally
wonderful. They measure 14 ½” at highest x
approximately 13 ½” at widest x 10” at deepest.
